Parent Involvement

We offer new parents an orientation, a centre tour, Parent Handbook for reference, and an enrolment form. We embrace parental expertise, skills suggestions and innovative ideas.

Parent communication and involvement are essential to providing an excellent childcare program and is a vital part of the success and co-operative spirit of the childcare centre. Parents are encouraged to bring forth their suggestions about the program and the routines in the rooms. We will provide parents with a yearly developmental record detailing their child’s progress at the centre. An opportunity will be provided for parents to discuss their child’s development through parent teacher interviews. We encourage parents to feel free and confident to discuss with us concerns regarding their children.

PARENT PARTICIPATION AND COMMUNICATION

At the SKD Bilingual, we believe strongly that child care is a shared responsibility between parents and child care staff. We know it is important to your peace of mind to have regular information about your child’s experiences. As well, your participation and input are valuable to your child and the centre. This is not always possible in the rush of the morning drop offs and evening pick-ups. The centre provides the following opportunities to ensure communication and information between parents and staff.

There will also be many events throughout the year where parent participation would be welcome. These events include winter concerts, summer barbeques, picnics, field trips or outside excursions, fundraising initiatives, and more.

OPEN COMMUNICATION

SKD Bilingual child care staff have a commitment to provide an environment that fosters your child’s growth and learning and staff are pleased to share information with you daily. If you feel that your child’s needs are not being met, we encourage you to express your concerns to your Child Care Supervisor/Program Manager.

FAMILY EVENTS

You are encouraged to visit and participate in our programs and special events, such as Family Socials, Open Houses, parent’s appreciation BBQ and SKD’s events whenever possible. Please read the newsletters, bulletins, and SKD website for information.

NEWSLETTER

Periodic newsletters will be distributed outlining news and special events across the centres. Your suggestions and comments are welcome!

EVALUATION

Parents are encouraged to complete our annual Parent Satisfaction Survey, which is confidential. Feedback and suggestions are welcome any time, as well as requests for a parent-teacher meeting.

FOCUS GROUPS

The SKD management seeks parent input to plan, develop new ideas, and improve services through a variety of ways including Parent Focus Groups. The focus group provides a venue for parents to be involved, provide advice, and act as a sounding board as the SKD strives to improve and expand its service to our community.

The SKD Bilingual Child Care Centre needs everyone’s support to operate the enriched program, maintain the current high standards and continue to make enhancements. Overall, we encourage parental involvement with our special events, class parties, teaching visitor and with field trips. This enables parents to be involved in our care process while still allowing their children the independence of having an individual and unique relationship with their teacher and peers.

SUGGESTIONS AND COMPLAINTS

All comments from parents are welcome. Parents may submit their complaint or suggestion in writing to their child’s classroom teacher or to the Program Manager the centre supervisor or Director. Parents may contact the Supervisor or director of the centre if they are unsatisfied with the respond. Any written complaints or suggestion made to the Supervisor or director will be replied to within five business days.

Suggestion boxes are also located outside each classroom. Parents may submit their comments using this method as well or by e-mail admin@skdgarderiebilingue.ca
